Cat Litter Brands You Sitter Secretly Loves (& Hates)

Let's face it, your cat sitter scoops lots and lots of poo. This makes us an expert in all things litter box related, including what we secretly think of the type of litter you use. We have pretty strong feelings on our favorite (and least favorite!) brands of litter.

Clay based non clumping

Your sitters secretly hates non clumping litter, especially if you have multiple cats. This type of litter, in our eyes, should only be used for little kittens. As it is non clumping, it makes scooping pee out difficult and requires much more frequent dumping of the litter box (which is actually a good thing, most boxes aren't dumped nearly often enough). It also tends to hold in the pee smell more than the non clumping variety.

Clay based clumping

Ahh, the most commonly used litter. There are great clumping litters such as Arm & Hammer's Clump & Seal (my personal favorite) and Dr. Elsey's Cat Attract Litter and then there are brands like Tidy Cat that never seem to clump well and always leave little "bits" behind, plus that stuff is like super glue on the bottom of a litter box!

Other than clay based

This ranges from corn based such as World's Best Cat Litter and wheat based Swheat Scoop and newspaper pellet based Yesterday's News. World's Best is a sitter favorite as it clumps easily and doesn't leave behind much odor. Yesterday's News, while similar to non clumping as pee is difficult to scoop out, is best for kittens or cats who just had recent surgery as it won't stick to incision sites. The newest "it" cat litter is Pretty Litter which changes color based on your kitties health. This is something that can come in very handy if you have a kitty with frequent urinary issues.

Our Favorite Brands Ranked:

  1. Arm & Hammer Clump & Seal

  2. Dr. Elsey's Cat Attract

  3. World's Best

  4. Pretty Litter
